My Current EDC: Version 1, the Beginning

I know my setup will change rapidly over the next few months — I thought it would be great to track that via blog posts to see how my thinking changes as I test new gear and form opinions.

Here are some notes:

  • KEY ORGANIZATION
    • I usually have two sets of keys on me, both on a traditional keyring
    • Set 1 changes depending on what vehicle I am driving. It’s usually a key fob and car key.
    • Set 2 stays in my pocket most of the time. It has:
      • My office keys
      • House key
      • various keys to padlocks and lock boxes
      • a small foldable knife
      • half of a tweezer set (I lost the actual tweezers)
  • WALLETS/CARD HOLDERS
    • I carry my cash & cards in two spots
    • CHELSEA Slim Card Holder that has served me well, but I’m ready to try something new
    • Google Pixel 2 – My phone case has space for two cards and one bill.
  • PEN
    • Any pen that I carry ends up leaking in my pocket, so I’m not currently carrying anything.
  • KNIVES
    • I carry a small knife on my key chain that I typically use for opening boxes
  • MULTI-TOOL or POCKET TOOLS
    • I don’t carry any tools on person right now. I do carry some stuff off body in a backpack (see below)
  • BELT
    • Most days, I am using a Propper Carbon Carry Belt. I’ve been thinking about moving some of the items I carry in my pockets to my belt. This belt should work well.
  • PANTS
    • I have a few pairs of pants that are meant for outdoorsy type activities, but prefer to wear them to work when I can. I typically shop through discount sites, so when I find something that I like, I can’t usually buy them again. I’ve had the pants below for a few years and they need to be replaced. A few of my favorites include:
      • Propper Men’s STL II Pant – I can’t find these in my size any longer since they were replaced with a newer model. I have probably owned 7 pairs of these pants over the last 5 years. I originally found them at a steep discount, then bought more at a higher price. They are really durable and are water/stain resistant (DWR).
      • Sage Seychelles Convertible Pants – These are probably my favorite short, pants and convertible pants. They are no longer made unfortunately. One of my favorite features in the zipper pocket with a key ring attachment/loop.
      • Columbia Sportswear Twisted Cliff Pants – These are super lightweight. However, I am not a fan of the mesh pockets.
  • FLASH LIGHTS
    • At this point, this is the only area where I’ve spent a significant amount of money. I’ve been carrying a XXXX attached to my keychain. I believe I paid $70 for it 4 years ago. It just recently stopped working, so I am looking for a replacement
  • BACKPACK:
    • The backpack I usually use is an old Columbia
    • I carry a couple of zipper pouches
      • Pouch 1
        • Tweezers
        • Scissors
        • x-acto knife
        • nail clippers
      • Pouch 2
        • Pencil set with mini-ruler and eraser
        • Permanent marker
