Occasionally I get to review something that screams quality as soon as I pick it up. The MININCH Xcissor Pen and MININCH Tool Pen both fall into this category!
Why Buy?
Several times per day, I am looking for something to write with — the problem is, it seems like the pens are always springing a leak and ruining my pants or the pencils are always poking through my pocket and into my leg. In dealing with these issues, I’ve decided that something needs to change. I need to start carrying a higher quality pen and find a better way to carry writing utensils. A couple of times per week, I find myself wandering the house looking for a pair of scissors. While I do carry a nice set in my EDC backpack that set something I feel comfortable handing off to my kids to use. Less frequently, I also find myself looking for an ‘art’ knife (think X-ACTO #2 Knife). I typically carry one of these in my backpack as well.
First Impressions
The MININCH Xcissor Pen has been in my EDC pen rotation for the last month, being carried more that any other pen. Here are some thoughts:
- The Good
- Well-build with nice heft/weight.
- Uses reputable refills.
- Multi-tool scissors are too small and not that useful. The MININCH Xcissor Pen is a great compromise between functionality and portability.
- I used the knife for an arts & crafts type project and it works well.
- The Bad
- Since the pen is used more open, it would be nice if you pulled the cap off for the pen and unscrewed the cap for the scissors.
- Ideally, there would be a way to carry the art knife as part of the pen, not separately
- The Bottom Line
- One of my favorite and most used pieces of gear since I started reviewing EDC gear.
Future Testing
- Will need to compare the writing functionality of the pen to other EDC pens. I’m pretty picky about the tactile aspect of using a pen as it really affects how legible my handwriting is.
- No leaks yet, but curious to see how well the refills hold up. I have no doubts about the build quality of the pen, scissors and knife.
